A pure copper is used for various products such as a lithium ion battery and heatsink because of its excellent electric and thermal conductivity. Recently, for improving performance of these products, demand for a high quality copper welding with laser has been increasing. Therefore, a stable welding of copper with blue diode laser, which has 60 % absorption rate for it, is expected. However, it is difficult to make a deep penetration for copper with it because of its current low heat input. Thus, to realize a deep penetration welding for copper, we employed a hybrid laser, which combine a blue diode laser and a single mode fiber (SMF) laser, for copper welding. In this study, bead-on plate welding for the pure copper substrate was carried out using the hybrid laser with the blue and SMF laser. The deep penetration for copper substrate at the thickness of 1 mm was achieved with the hybrid laser.
